Diplodocus "Stego 99" - Skull Replica

Item details

Polyurethane Resin, Steel

Height: 17 Inches; Width: 7 Inches; Depth: 14 Inches

Diplodocus, one of the longest dinosaurs ever discovered, had a double row of bones on the underside of its tail to provide extra support. This double row of bones gives the dinosaur its name where “diplos” is Greek for double and “dokos” means beam. Looking at the skull, the nasal openings for Diplodocus are found high up on its forehead, instead of at the end of its snout like most animals. The reason for this placement is currently under debate by scientists. This Diplodocus specimen was excavated from the Late Jurassic Morrison Formation at the Stego 99 Quarry in southeastern Wyoming.

This is a museum quality cast replica made with a durable polyurethane resin. It was molded directly from the original restored skull, not a 3D printed skull or a sculpture. The resin cast is made on demand and is produced using methods that preserve all the fine details found in the original specimen.

Display size: 17”x7”x14” as displayed with mouth open, not including the display stand. Variations on the color of the skull and the mount (i.e. wall mount) are possible.
